I was asked to gaze into my crystal ball and here are my five predictions for the year ahead.
1 - There will be a new ASP World Champion in 2013 and his name will be Jordy Smith.
2 - A bunch of new discoveries around the continent including the unveiling of the new J-Bay: a 2km righthand pointbreak on the East coast of Africa. Yes that is right.
3 - A wave of previously disadvantaged surfers in the lineups of Africa, and then a surge of competitors on the WQS, much like the Brazilians are experiencing now.
4 - The return of the Big Wave Africa Dungeons contest on the new ASP Big Wave World Tour.
5 - More surfers = more shark attacks.
