The final and one of the UK’s most prestigious junior surf events is just around the corner. After an impressive show of talent at the last stop at Putsborough Beach in North Devon it is all still to play for as Rip Curl’s search to find the best groms in the UK draws to a close for another year. Without further ado we are happy to announce the third and final stop of the Rip Curl Grom search presented by POSCA at Watergate Bay 17/18th August.
The picturesque Watergate Bay on the Cornish coastline will play host to the event, with support of the Watergate Bay Hotel. The beach boasts idyllic views and crystal clear waters, whilst on it’s the day the waves can provide progressive and long canvas’s for the surfers to negotiate. Two days of intense competition is expected as grom’s from around the UK look to catapult themselves into contention for the UK titles and the top 2 Under 16 boys and girls surfers look to gain qualification to The European part of this innovative search.
Rip Curl are stoked to be able to hold the third and final stop of the Rip Curl Grom Search at Watergate Bay. The talent and quality so far has been incredible and Rip Curl are looking forward to crowning the champion grommies for the UK said Head of Rip Curl UK Sean Harris.
For those unfamiliar with the unique concept behind the Rip Curl Grom Search presented by POSCA, it is a series of search events aiming to identifying the bestUnder 16 male and female surfers in the UK. The search is comprised of three events, with the first two at Porthcawl in Wales and Putsborough in North Devon successfully passing by leaving Watergate Bay, Cornwall as the final destination. A combination of a surfers best two results will identify two male and female surfers whom will then go on to represent the UK in the European finals ‘somewhere in Europe’, and battle to earn a place in the Rip Curl Grom Search World Finals in Australia.
Surfing GB will continue to build on the successes that the first and second stop of the 2013 Search have brought by again providing boys and girls under 16’s, 14’s & 12’s surfers the opportunity to compete in a fun and friendly arena. POSCA will of course be on hand to provide a wealth of awesome activities, FCS and Gorrilla providing cool prizes, and Rip Curl will be providing goody bags and free coaching from top Rip Curl pro surfers Jayce Robinson.
Leader boards for all categories will be posted prior to the event. We are looking forward to seeing you all down at Watergate Bay to battle out for the titles
