MITCH Corbett is never normally found anywhere, he's a dedicated surf gypsy. His new series, Not All Wandering Is Aimless, reflects this itinerant attitude. Words by filmer, Tim Boydell. The Elusive Labrador that is Mitch Corbett rarely shows his face to the media these days. But with Mitch you are at least guaranteed to get one thing: quality not quantity. Mitch waited for years to get a proper sponsorship deal and support. He always told me about the things he would do if he had the chance and the second that deal with Quiky dropped. Well, he didn't disappoint (not entirely anyway, as don't have my best mate around much anymore). That aside you've got to give it to the man, He just disappeared! But where? He won't tell you this so I will...
Mitch and I went to Nias and had easily the best waves of our lives, unfortunetly on the last day he really injured his shoulder and back (bad start to a spono deal). Where some people might have sat at home, ate, got fat and slammed Facebook, Mitch went travelling 'somewhere' special, remote and cold. He litterally built a slipway, learnt to drive a tractor, fish for crabs and sat outback at 6-10ft slabs, watching them! Yes watching them. He couldn't surf so he sat there on his own for weeks in the middle of nowhere watching the waves roll and noting the variables of swell and tide (get your head around that). With Mitch's shoulder looking a little better nearer June this year he jumped on a plane and hit Nias. I wont go on and on, But personally, Jamie O'Brian aside these are some of the best kegs I've seen at Nias....full screen, tea, enjoy. Cheers, Tim © 2013 Mitch Corbett
