SNAPPER is dead, long live Kirra - someone go and block that sand bypass pump quick smart. Sunday, April 14th was the best day at the break since last week and the week before that.
“I bolted up the coast for 24 hours and scored some pumping waves at Kirra. There are a few mental ones of Fanning in here.” Said Jay ‘Bottle’ Thompson. “There are a lot of incredible surfers out Kirra but I personally think there are only a handful of guys including Mick, Parko and Dingo Morrison who can read Kirra better than anyone else in the world. Well maybe Slater in an exemption but he is not human. To see those guys live is amazing, their timing and speed out there in next to perfection. The reason they are so good is simply for the fact that they have been surfing the place since they popped out of their mum’s womb and will never miss a chance to surf perfection Kirra.”
Bottle is a man who’s digging his rejuvenation as documenter-in-chief of Aussie swells. “In the last 6 to 12 months I have partnered up with my buddy John Wiley from Deltoid productions. He is naturally talented behind the lens and in the editing room he is second to none. We basically bounce ideas off each other, utilise each-other’s expertise and try our best to come up with a creative edits. I dabble behind the lens to shoot every now and then but I don’t really go near the editing room as John is in a league of his own, I will watch the edits and consistently critique and give feedback until we are both happy with the final product.”
