Ocean View Apartments

Ocean View Apartments are ideally located for surfing in Carrapateira on the west coast of the Algarve. Carrapateira is widely considered the most versatile spot for quality surf in Europe - so it is the perfect location for a fantastic surf trip. As our name suggests, Ocean View Apartments have beautiful sea views over Carrapateiras beach which is actually called Praia do Bordeira.

Carrapateira has an excellent point break and numerous beach breaks, & we're just 3km from Amado. We have a further 15 excellent surf breaks within just 15 minutes of the apartments on both the south and the west coasts.

The beach in carrapateira is a swell magnet and can start to work with an ocean swell as small as 2 feet and can hold a wave up to 25 feet. This has given Carrapateira an average of 72% surfable days over the last 10 years.

The beauty of the area, and its reputation for versatilty come from this - and that when it becomes big here, a 15 minute drive can take you from 15 foot waves to 2 foot waves.

The Apartments

We started Ocean View Apartments in 2005 with the specific aim of creating accommodation for surfers in the best surf spot in Europe.
We wanted to provide accommodation not just in the best location, but also somewhere that created a good atmosphere where our guests would feel comfortable and at home during their stay.

We have three clean, comfortable self catering apartments that are available to rent for your holiday all year. Each apartment is named after one of our favourite surf breaks in the UK.

Our Croyde apartment sleeps up to 2 people.
Our Constantine apartment sleeps up to 4 people.
Our Kimmeridge apartment sleeps up to 4 people.

We can of course accommodate larger bookings for two or three apartments.

Each apartment is self contained with a comfortable atmosphere designed to make you feel at home during your holiday. They are well eqipped with good kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms and also have the modern home comforts you would want including: satellite TV/radio and DVD/CD players.

We have a superb roof terrace and courtyard which have plenty of seating to take full advantage of the amazing sea views. There is also a Pool table and BBQ.

Prices start from just 40 euros per night for two people sharing an apartment.

Our prices are inclusive of the amenities including heating, Bed linen, towels for the bathroom and end cleaning.

We also provide a washing service, Board hire, secure board storage and wetsuit dryers.

Carrapateira

Carrapateira itself is within the Costa Vicentina National Park which comprises thousands of acres of protected lands that are perfect for hiking, biking, surfing, bird-watching, fishing and relaxing.

The village centre is a 3 minute walk and has a daily market for fresh fruit, vegetables, fish and meat. It also benefits from a local store, 3 cafes, 4 restaurants, 3 surf shops, and a tourist shop.

The beaches of Carrapateira and Amado are just a 3 minute drive from our apartments and have a life guards on duty during the summer months.

Historic Lagos and Sagres are a 20-minute drive. They are perfect for a more lively night out with many bars and restaurants.

Algarve Surf Seasons

The algarve surf seasons are similar to those of the rest of europe with the biggest waves coming in the winter. It's a huge advantage though, is in receiving good quality waves all year round - and in one of europes best climates!

The West coast of the Algarve has had an average of 72% surfable days over the last ten years! This is because the Algarve has no land masses blocking the swell or interference from the continental shelf.
Consequently, unlike the majority of the other european countries, the forecasting is also done very differently.

You would usually expect the waves at the beach to be smaller than the ocean swell. In the Algarve this is not always the case. At many beaches the waves will actually be breaking higher than the ocean swell shows.
Therefore, it only takes an ocean swell of 2 or 3 feet for some breaks to start working.

Although south and east swells are not unusual, the dominant Algarve swell direction throughout the year is from the north-west. Therefore, the west coast is usually a lot bigger than the south coast. Depending on the time of year, the waves can be anywhere from 2 feet up to 25 feet.

So when it is too big here, a short drive will find you on the south coast where the waves should be smaller and more manageble. The further along the south coast, in general, the smaller the waves.

You can go from 25ft waves to 3ft waves in just a fifteen minute drive.

We have have great relationships with the local surf schools we can offer our guests excellent discounts on lessons, hire and surf tours.

We provide everyone with daily forecasts and advice on where to surf. With our knowledge of the surf , tides and conditions here, we can save you wasted time ‘looking for the waves’ & point you towards breaks to suit you that you otherwise probably wouldn’t find.

We take into account your experience, surfing ability, board type, and the kind of wave you prefer to surf (left, right, beach, reef, point, difficulty and height) to help you make the most of your time here.

And whatever you need to help you surf then it is right here on our doorstep. We have three surf shops in the village square and three surf schools at Praia do Amado.
