Leeward Islands Surf Reports and Surf Forecasts

Puerto Rico, Anguilla and the British Virgin Islands make up the Leeward Islands a chain of islands with a north-easterly Atlantic swell window. Peak surf season is from October to March when the chain is regularly battered by swells moving down from America's East Coast. Named after the easterly trade winds which hits these islands after their southern cousins. Classic reef set-ups abound with the British Virgin Island's Cane Garden bay and Puerto Rico's Gas Chambers as prime examples of the world-class surf on tap here. Puerto Rico's surf on its north-western edge is aided by the world's second deepest offshore trench. The best time to surf is the morning before the trade-winds start to blow. Summer brings consistent if onshore swell to the exposed eastern shores. Sea temperatures remain between 25 and 28°C or 77 to 82°F.
